With the groundbreaking ceremony for a new e-truck charging site in Eugendorf near Salzburg, E.ON Drive Infrastructure and MAN Truck & Bus are sending a strong signal for the future of climate-friendly freight transport in Austria. The MAN service location in Eugendorf, where the charging stations are being installed, is situated along a key transport corridor. Its proximity to the A1 West Motorway ensures fast access to major transport routes in Austria and neighboring countries.
The two charging stations each offer a capacity of up to 400 kilowatts and feature one charging point each, ensuring that e-truck drivers can always access the full charging power. During a standard 45-minute driving break, this allows enough energy to be charged for more than 300 kilometers of range. The site is also prepared for Megawatt Charging (MCS) in order to provide even higher performance for future vehicle models. The charging stations will be accessible around the clock and can be used by all e-trucks regardless of manufacturer. During daytime hours, drivers can use the existing infrastructure at the MAN service location, such as sanitary facilities and the lounge area, during their charging break.
Four Additional Sites Planned
Further sites are planned in Villach, Ansfelden, Graz, and Leopoldsdorf near Vienna. They are strategically located along major motorways and central transport corridors such as the A1, A2, and A9. With distances of approximately 180 to 300 kilometers between the planned sites, they will already create a reliable public charging infrastructure for modern e-trucks on many transport routes across the country. In addition to Austria, E.ON and MAN are establishing public e-truck charging stations at MAN locations in Germany, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary as part of their strategic partnership.
Strategic Partnership between E.ON and MAN
“Every new charging station is another step toward a reliable, Europe-wide supply network for electric commercial vehicles. With the Eugendorf site, we are pleased to give the starting signal for soon five E.ON truck charging sites along key transport routes in Austria. Together with our partner MAN, we aim to make freight transport here and across Europe more sustainable,” says Timo Sillober, CEO of E.ON Drive Infrastructure.
In the future, E.ON charging points for e-trucks will also be reservable. Together with partners, E.ON has developed a reservation system for e-truck charging stations that makes it easier for drivers and dispatchers to coordinate charging and rest times. This is intended to prevent waiting times at charging stations and enable transport companies to plan their routes even more reliably.
The increasing number of electric trucks underlines the importance of expanding the charging infrastructure: Austria is currently experiencing significant growth in electric trucks. Around 16,000 electric commercial vehicles are already on the road in the country, and the number of new registrations continues to rise. In the first half of 2025, nearly 2,500 zero-emission commercial vehicles were newly registered. This represents a significant increase compared to previous years. ¹
