E.ON Drive Infrastructure Italy Acquires 100% of SMATRICS EnBW Italia and Strengthens Its High-Power Charging Network in Italy

E.ON Drive Infrastructure Italy S.r.l. announces the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of SMATRICS EnBW Italia S.r.l., a company active in the development and operation of high-power charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

The transaction marks an important milestone in EDRI Italy's growth strategy and further strengthens the company's role in building a reliable, high-performance charging network to support the transition to electric mobility across Italy.

Through this acquisition, EDRI Italy integrates four already operational High-Power Charging (HPC) hubs into its network, strategically located along the Scandinavian-Mediterranean1 e Mediterranean2 TEN-T3 corridors, two of Europe's most important transport routes. The transaction adds a total of 64 high-power charging points to EDRI's existing charging network, further strengthening charging infrastructure along major passenger, freight and cross-border travel corridors.

The acquired hubs include:

  • Brixen-Vahrn (South Tyrol), along the Brenner corridor, featuring 20 Ultra-Fast charging points;
  • Palmanova (Udine), along the Alpine-Adriatic corridor, featuring 12 Ultra-Fast charging points;
  • Gruaro (Venice area), strategically positioned between the A28 and A4 motorways, featuring 16 Ultra-Fast charging points;
  • Trezzo sull'Adda (Milan area), located along the A4 motorway and serving the greater Milan region, featuring 16 Ultra-Fast charging points,

The sites are characterized by a high level of available grid capacity, enabling Ultra-Fast charging services while providing strong potential for future expansion in terms of additional charging points and potential technology upgrades.

"The acquisition of SMATRICS EnBW Italia represents a strategic step in the growth journey of E.ON Drive Infrastructure Italy. By integrating these hubs into our network, we strengthen our presence along some of Europe's most important transport corridors and further expand a charging network designed to make high-power charging more accessible and reliable" said Michele De Gaspari, Regional Director Southern Europe at EDRI.

A Strategic Investment to Accelerate Electric Mobility

The acquisition is fully aligned with EDRI's mission of developing and operating one of Europe's leading public charging networks. By integrating these four hubs, the company strengthens its presence along strategic TEN-T transport corridors connecting Italy with Central Europe and key Mediterranean markets. The new locations enhance EDRI's ability to support long-distance electric travel and commercial transport while contributing to the development of a seamless European charging network.

The transaction also confirms E.ON Drive Infrastructure's ambition to play a leading role in ultra-fast charging services by continuing to invest through strategic M&A.

EDRI stays focus on expanding a reliable and customer-centric charging ecosystem, contributing to the decarbonization of road transport and making sustainable mobility an increasingly accessible choice for both individuals and businesses.

All four hubs are located on core TEN-T corridors, reinforcing EDRI's commitment to supporting the European Union's objectives for sustainable transport, cross-border connectivity and the electrification of road mobility.
